Thank you so much for your interesting piece of information. So few people take the trouble to comment on our precious historical heritage which is in danger of going lost.

I too am a direct descendent of Abel Erasmus. His grandaughter (GZM) Ada De Beer got married to a James Hannan (my grandfather). The family farm at Krugerspost, where Abel is buried, was sold out of the family in 2002. It was a sad day for us all. The homestead has so much history and I lived there for some years up to the day it was sold. Here is a link to the archives that will show you photos of the family cemetery as well as Abel's grave: http://www.eggsa.org/library/main.php?
g2_itemId=1904083

Anyone is welcome to get in touch with me for further info if needed.

Regards,

Stephen

I remember visiting Zebedelia Estates back in 1964 when I was 13 years old. My father was in South Africa from the University of California and attached to the University of Pretoria. He was there doing research on the very disease you mentioned. I think Greening Disease was also called "Tristeza" if I'm not mistaken. It is pathetic what the new regime has done to the ranch. All they had to do is just leave the place alone. But I guess these people believed that being able to act bossy and look important was the only thing that mattered. I believed that Nelson Mandela's vision for South Africa's future was very ambitious but still possible. How ironic it is that the same people who claim to be his followers are the very ones who are now ripping the heart of the country. It is like there is this incessant urge in the African's mind to self-destruct. There is nothing to stop them from doing it. I've reached the point where all these third world countries, who make these desperate pleas for help from so-called "Rich Countries" are just getting what they so justly deserve.
